Designing Bookplates

How you design your set of bookplates, or "ex libris" as we derived the term from Latin (from books) is up to you and the general size and space available on the inside front covers of the books you have in mind. Paper back books can use a small bookplate and larger books, can use something like 2" wide by 3" high, or any variation you wish, as long as it keeps with the bookplate design you have in mind.

Let's say that you want to design some basketball bookplates and that you have a special Grandpa in mind who really enjoys the game. You could include an image of a basketball on the bookplate such as the "Shoot the Net Bookplate Design" or the "Basketball Bookplate Design" or even the "Slam Dunk Bookplate Design" any of which your favorite basketball player will enjoy.

If you have a favorite basketball fan who follows the NCAA, design a set of these book labels for the inside front cover of a book describing the history of the Association. You could indicate on the personalized bookplates that your family gave the book and mark the date of the gift.

Designing bookplates could be considered one of many kids crafts that you could do when you want to spend some quality time with your child one on one making bookplate labels.
